On 21st January, 1915, the 14th London battalion of 1 Brigade, 1st Division moved into the front line along the La Bassée canal at Cuinchy where they remained until relieved on 23rd January. John Campbell was killed here on 22nd January which the battalion diary recorded as being a quiet day with some shelling and it was this shell fire that was likely to have caused his death. |
